When Jimmy Venables’ ex-wife Ann decides to go to Africa on a volunteering mission, weekend-dad Jimmy – believing it to be short term – agrees to take care of their two teenage kids with the help of his ex-mother-in-law, the posh and interfering Diana.

In Series Three, Jimmy now finds that he’s in for the long haul and what he thought of as a temporary domestic arrangement is likely to become permanent. Shocked by the idea of spending the rest of his life with Diana, Jimmy resolves to be a ‘proper’ Dad and takes on the running of the house. He sets out with good intentions but before long, work suffers, social life suffers, and Jimmy suffers.

As Molly and Alex struggle for more freedom, Diana struggles to tighten her grip on the family. Jimmy, just struggles.

Elsewhere, Jimmy vows to prove his masculinity the only way he knows how: by buying a motorbike; Molly and Alex date a brother and sister; Diana looks up an old flame; Jimmy gets dumped by his long-term girlfriend, Siobhan; Diana challenges Jimmy to audition for her choral society; Molly joins a Celibacy Group (but only because she fancies one of the members) and Alex confesses to being Aunt Daisy – the agony aunt in the school paper.
