French Fields

Hester's husband William accepts an offer of a posting in northern France and they're off sur le continent. On the plus side is the food and the wine, on the minus side the language and the culture, but they're willing to have bash, upping le sticks from Barnes to a rented house named Les Hirondelles in the village of St Martin (fictional), set in the verdant area south of Boulogne. Here they meet up with, among others, estate agent Chantal Moriac, English neighbours Hugh and Jill - a pair of swanky Londoners with a quite dreadful command of French - and the Fields' visiting daughter Emma with her husband Peter. Filmed in France, this sequel to Fresh Fields came about after writer John Chapman (who co-authored with Ian Davidson) bought a home in the Dordogne.
